# Thoughts on an infrastructure for distributing Linux application bundles

I will try to implement AppImage plugin for Gnome Software.  
I have already a working base, I have created draft MR where you can track progress [Draft: Appimage plugin (!1017) · Merge requests · GNOME / gnome-software · GitLab](https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/-/merge_requests/1017)

I think it would be incredibly useful for developers willing to help with development of appimage tools to properly package and distribute libappimage among distros ( [https://pkgs.org/search/?q=libappimage](https://pkgs.org/search/?q=libappimage) ).

There are only two packages for now. The one for arch and one (very old) for debian.

Lack of libappimage which could be marked as a dependency can be obstacle for packaging in case of some distributions.

BTW I have also found ticket [AppImage backend](https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=449704) in KDE discovery bug tracker.

But there is no feedback from developers.
